Try Korean Natural Farming at Home!

At The Bloomery, we nourish the soil first.

One approachable Korean Natural Farming practice you can try at home is Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) — a natural microbial solution that supports soil health and compost balance.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup rice rinse water
  • 10 cups milk
  • A glass jar

How to Make It

  1. Rinse rice in water and save the cloudy water.
  2. Let it sit loosely covered at room temperature for 2–3 days.
  3. Add milk (10:1 ratio milk to rice water).
  4. Let sit until curds separate (about 5–7 days).
  5. Strain off the yellow liquid — this is your LAB solution.

*Store in the refrigerator.

How to Use

Dilute heavily (about 1 tablespoon per gallon of water) and apply to soil or compost every few weeks.

🌼 Why It Works

Lactic acid bacteria encourage beneficial microbial activity in the soil. These microbes help break down organic matter, improve nutrient cycling, and create a more balanced soil ecosystem.

This is one small, gentle way to work with nature instead of against it.
