About

Ami O’Grady, Founder of The Bloomery

Not every flower farm begins with a lifelong plan to become a farmer.

Sometimes it begins during a season when life quietly asks you to slow down and grow something new.

Before founding The Bloomery, I spent many years working in healthcare - first as a nurse and later in executive leadership roles in healthcare technology. Caring for others was meaningful work, but like many people in caregiving professions, I eventually found myself running on empty.

During a particularly difficult season for my own mental health, I started planting flowers. At first it was simple - a few beds in the garden, something peaceful to tend after long days.

But something unexpected happened.

The quiet rhythm of growing flowers began to change me. Watching seeds push through soil, caring for living things, and spending time outside created a kind of healing I didn’t know I needed.

Little by little, the garden grew.

And somewhere along the way, I realized the flowers weren’t just growing in the garden, they were growing me, too.

That season of healing eventually became the beginning of The Bloomery.

The Bloomery Today

Today, The Bloomery is a small regenerative sustainable flower farm growing seasonal, locally grown flowers in the Chelmsford and Pepperell area of Massachusetts.

Instead of flowers shipped thousands of miles through global supply chains, The Bloomery focuses on blooms that are grown close to home and harvested at their peak. Throughout the seasons, the fields produce flowers such as:

• tulips, anemones and ranunculus in spring

• garden roses, sun flowers zinnias, and dahlias in summer

• heirloom chrysanthemums in autumn

Because these flowers are grown locally, they are fresher, longer-lasting, and more expressive of the natural rhythm of New England.

Supporting locally grown flowers also helps sustain small farms and agricultural land across Massachusetts.

The Philosophy Behind The Bloomery

At its heart, The Bloomery is about intentional growing.

Flowers taught me that nature has its own kind of quiet medicine.

Seeds don’t rush.

Flowers bloom in their own time.

And tending something living reminds us to slow down and breathe.

At The Bloomery, flowers are grown with a focus on:

🌷 Seasonality- celebrating what naturally blooms in each moment

🌻 Regenerative growing practices that nurture healthy soil

🌸 Local connection between the land, the grower, and the people who bring the flowers home

Each bouquet reflects patience, care, and the simple joy of something grown with intention.

Why The Bloomery Exists

Flowers have a quiet power.

They celebrate joyful moments.

They comfort us during difficult ones.

And sometimes, they help us move through seasons of change.

What began as a personal act of healing eventually became The Bloomery - a flower farm dedicated to locally grown, seasonal flowers and the beauty of things grown slowly and well.

I believe flowers aren’t just decoration. They are a small form of everyday self-care — a reminder to pause, notice beauty, and reconnect with the natural world around us.

Whether it’s a bouquet on your kitchen table, flowers shared with someone you love, or stems brought into a workspace, flowers have a way of quietly changing the atmosphere of a space.

Every bouquet begins the same way:

seed → soil → season → bloom

And every year, The Bloomery grows a little more.

In a world that moves quickly, flowers remind us to slow down, breathe deeply, and notice what’s growing around us — and within us.

Are local flowers better?

Supporting locally grown flowers also helps sustain small farms and agricultural land across Massachusetts.
